We are feeling the holiday spirit this week at Youville Centre! On Monday we had our annual “Mom & Me Christmas Song Circle” where our young moms had the opportunity to join their children in our child development program to sing holiday songs and spend time together. Staff, volunteers, and placement students also joined in the fun, as we sang songs such as:
- Jingle Bells
- Frosty the Snowman
- The Snowflake Song
- Riding Along Singing my Santa Claus Song (a holiday version of The Cowboy Song)
- Five Little Reindeer (a holiday version of Five Little Ducks)
- Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer
They also enjoyed singing some of their favourite songs that may not have had holiday themes, but were very fun and interactive, and some included actions and even props! Those songs included:
- The Bakery Shop
- The Crocodile Song
- 5 Little Monkeys
- It’s a Lovely Day
- The Good Morning Train
- Roly Poly
- Buzzy Bumble Bee and
- The Little Fish
During circle time, our infants and toddlers work on their language development, memory skills, and cognitive development. They also build on their social skills, learning to participate in a group, express themselves, and interact with others.
The Mom & Me Christmas Song Circle is just another way that moms and babies at Youville can take advantage of another bonding opportunity, and enjoy the wonderful sense of community in the centre.
What songs are you singing with your little ones at this time of year? Or which songs do you remember singing as a child?
